Climbing along the seabound coast
If you follow me on Instagram (go to the bottom of this page to follow along if you aren't already!) then you have seen and heard me talk about Polly's Cove, Peggy's forgotten sister, haha! I had never heard of Polly's Cove until we moved back to Nova Scotia at the end of 2021. We came to the area for the first time on Boxing Day that year and wow... this place is beyond beautiful! Not only is it HUGE (it goes on forever!) but it has beautiful rocky cliff sides and less people! It's the perfect place to be!
The reason we discovered Polly's Cove is because of the guy you see below, my husband Mark. If you don't follow him on Instagram (you should! He shares a ton of his climbing) you may not know that his passion is climbing - bouldering to be specific. For those who don't know what bouldering is, it is just where you climb without ropes or harnesses - it's just you and the rock or bouldering wall if you are in a gym! The few things that you do need for bouldering are: climbing shoes, chalk for your hands, and at least one crash pad (incase you fall).
This particular spot was right along the coastline and was an easy hike to get to. There were a couple different boulders to choose from in this area with some easier climbs for those who are just starting out or just aren't as comfortable outdoor climbing like me!
If you are interested in bouldering, I highly suggest trying indoor first (you can try it out at East Peaks or Seven Bays in Halifax) just to get comfortable with the shoes, the height, the technique, and the falling (because you will fall) and then work your way to trying outdoors, maybe with other people who know where to go, have crash pads and experience - like my husband! He will gladly take you out and help you out! Any excuse to climb, haha!
