Want to see what an 8-hour "non-traditional" wedding day in Downtown Halifax looks like?
Well, here you go!
Katherine + Chris came from Newfoundland to get married at The Lower Deck in a super beautiful, fun and unique wedding! They went the route of 'first-look' which allowed them a bunch of time prior to the ceremony for couple photos, wedding party photos AND family photos. So, after the ceremony, they had loads of time to mingle as well as frolic around downtown Halifax a little bit more for couple photos!
This may not be what every "non-traditional" 8-hour package looks like but they had photos as a top priority for their day as well as time to slip away for newlywed photos after the ceremony. There was never a moment of this day that felt rushed or stressful. It was one of the most relaxed wedding days I have shot and I am a big fan of how they planned it all out!
Also, one of my favourite things of this day was when their friend who married them allowed a moment before the ceremony continued on for the guests to pull out their phones and snap a picture or two of the bride and groom but then to put their phones away until the ceremony was over. After they did this, they, too, took a selfie with the couple which I absolutely adored and is a detail I still think about when I am at other weddings!
So, if you are wanting a 'phone free' ceremony but have a feeling that your Aunt Sue or Grandpa Joe is still going to pull out their phone (or iPad, haha!) why not let everyone have a minute right after the couple is at the head of the room and allow everyone to snag a photo or two for themselves :)
They win, you win, and I win (and hopefully don't have to dodge or edit out people's phones/ iPads in the isle, haha!)!
